The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations came into force on 1st January 1993 (some minor changes were made in 2002).

They seek to protect the health of workers by reducing risks from VDU work. Briefly, the Regulations require employers to:

  • Analyse workstations to assess and reduce risks
  • Ensure workstations meet specified minimum requirements
  • Plan work activities so that they include breaks or changes    of activity
  • Provide eye and eyesight tests on request, and special spectacles if needed.
  • Provide information and training.

Display Screen Equipment training should form part of an employee’s mandatory induction, when such equipment will be used.

Upon completion of this course the participant will be aware of the correct usage of Display Screen Equipment (DSE) and how it may affect them in their daily duties.

The course participant will be able to identify the correct use of DSE equipment in accordance with HSE rules and guidelines to minimise the effect of strain or injury that may arise from the misuse of equipment.

The objective of the course is to ensure that persons are aware that their workstation complies with the basic requirements and that their working conditions are safe and comfortable. Each participant should be able to achieve a pass mark in a short test to ensure that they have a full understanding of the course.
